The memory inside your gadgets just went parabolic.

Nintendo took a reported 41% memory-cost jump in a single quarter. TrendForce cut its 2026 console shipment forecast on memory prices.

The 12GB chip in this phone cost Apple about $27 when it launched. Today that part runs ~$146, and the base iPhone 18 is rumored to CUT memory to 9GB.

Memory has gone from 10–15% of a flagship phone's build cost to 30–40%. Samsung put the S26 up $100; Xiaomi raised prices across the line.

Nvidia added $300 to the 5090's wholesale price in May 2026 and named GDDR7 as the reason. AMD followed with a 10% GDDR-kit hike in July.
