How we price this

US retail price means a real street price for the exact product — what you'd actually pay (or try to). Open-market estimates take the memory configuration inside a device and price it at reported spot or contract rates per gigabyte (DRAMeXchange and TrendForce figures as reported in the press, plus teardown cost analyses). Device makers buy on long-term contracts, usually below spot — but contract prices are surging too, which is why Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, and Nvidia have all raised prices and said the word "memory" out loud.
